Frequently asked questions

We understand how painful and difficult it can be to lose a loved one. In the middle of all that grief, there are arrangements to be made and details to attend to.

Below are some FAQs that may help. If you have any other questions or would like some guidance and assistance in navigating the funeral process, feel free to contact us.

  • If the cause of death is expected due to a lingering illness, you need to contact the GP or the attending doctor/physician to issue a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, which is "a legal document which records the full details of the deceased, the circumstances of and cause of death." This document is needed before embalming, burial, or cremation can take place and must be given to the funeral director. You can read more about it here.

If the cause of death is unexpected (such as in an accident) or unknown (such as suspected foul play), you need to contact the police who will get a medical practitioner to verify death. They will also assess whether the death needs to be reported to the Coroner.

In either case, you can call us as soon as you learn of your loved one's death. Rest assured, we will walk you through the funeral process with much care and respect.

  • Embalming is an option, but it is not a need. We recommend 'natural body care' instead. You can read about it here, or if you'd like to find out more about it, our team would be happy to discuss this with you.

  • You can choose to have a funeral (where your loved one’s casket is present) or a memorial (where your loved one’s urn may or may not be present). Whether it’s a small, quiet gathering or a large celebration of their life, we can help you honour your loved one in the best way possible.

  • The costs involved will depend on a number of factors, such as the choice between burial or cremation, choice of coffin or urn, choice of headstone or plaque, among other details. We can discuss with you our wide range of services available at a reasonable cost, so you can focus on what's most important. You can get in touch with us here.
